Historical Plaques - Historical Society of New Mexico

In order to properly commemorate the historical sites and buildings around New Mexico, the Historical Society of New Mexico manages a program in conjunction with the Historic Preservation Division Cultural Affairs.  When the Cultural Properties Review Committee lists a property on the State Register of Cultural Properties  or if the property is a Contributing Structure in a listed Historic District, the property is eligible for an official plaque similar to the sample shown in the picture above right.

Check or money order must accompany each order, payable to the Historical Society of New Mexico.  Submit separate order forms for each plaque requested.  The plaques are manufactured from aluminum alloys with flint hardness which gives them a scratch resistant surface.  The finish is bronze background with gold colored lettering.  They are 10" x 10".

The cost of the plaques are $175 for members and $200 for non-members.  A check or money order should accompany the application.

You can print or make a copy of the application and mail to or email to Henrietta Christmas.

    Mounting of Plaque:

The plaques are available in two types of mounting "blind tapped" and double sided tape, please see below for more of a description.  If using stucco they need "hanging clets" for an additional $20.

Options:

 1) The "blind tapped" mounting technique is shown above.

 2)  An alternative mounting involves the use of construction grade double-sided tape (not supplied).  Instead of studs, the back of the plaque is a smooth surface.  The double-sided tape is applied to the back of the plaque and then the plaque is mounted in the selected location.   Double-sided tape mount requires a smooth non-porous mounting surface.
