Historical Society of New Mexico - Membership

We would like to take some time to let you know how the Historical Society has worked this last year to support our historical base, including supporting many other Historical Societies and local groups throughout the state of New Mexico, and providing educational gifts, grants and scholarships.

  •  Our dedication to holding New Mexico History Conferences in different areas of the state continues to be one of our biggest successes.  Our Conference in Ruidoso in 2011 was well attended and the local societies and schools were superb colleagues in making it a hit - 400 attendees.

  • Five $500 grants were awarded to individual(s) and organizations, all of which are working on books or papers related to New Mexico History.

  • Our Speaker’s Bureau has been thriving, and we continue to add speakers, several new ones this last year and offer more information via our website, twenty-two so far this year.

  • The Historic Structures Plaque program has been a continued success; 5 plaques were ordered from April 2010 to April 2011.

  • Our newspaper columns focusing on New Mexico have been well read and we urge our Historical community to participate in this.

  • The Historical Notebook has been reinstated by Don Bullis and is received by members on request.

  • La Crónica continues to be a wonderful “Chronicle” featuring - papers done at conferences, book reviews and information on history events throughout the state since its birth in 1976.

  • We continue to work with the Office of the State Historian in granting scholarships to New Mexico scholars.

We look forward to seeing you at our 2012 Santa Fe Conference.  This will be a great conference and will mark 100 years since Statehood.  See www.hsnm.org for more information as it becomes available.
