Historical Society of New Mexico - Membership
We would like to take some time to let you know how the Historical Society has worked this last year to support our historical base, including supporting many other Historical Societies and local groups throughout the state of New Mexico, and providing educational gifts, grants and scholarships. Ø Our dedication to holding New Mexico History Conferences in different areas of the state continues to be one of our biggest successes. Our Conference in Sante Fe in April 2009 was well attended and the local societies and schools were superb colleagues in making it a hit. Ø The 2009 Santa Fe Conference focused on having a Teacher Workshop which was well attended. We plan on doing more of these in future conferences. We also had 35 5th graders attend one session. Ø Three educators were awarded scholarships to attend the Conference and participate in the Teacher Workshop. Ø Four $500 grants were awarded to individual(s) and organizations, all of which are working on books or papers related to New Mexico History. Ø Our Speaker’s Bureau has been thriving, and we continue to add speakers, seven new ones this last year and offer more information via our website. Ø The Historic Structures Plaque program has been a continued success; 18 plaques were ordered from April 2008 to April 2009. Ø Our newspaper columns focusing on New Mexico have been well read and we urge our Historical community to participate in this. Ø La Crónica continues to be a wonderful “Chronicle” featuring - papers done at conferences, book reviews and information on history events throughout the state since its birth in 1976.
We look forward to seeing you at our 2010 Hobbs Conference, April 30-May 2. This will be a great conference and will mark 150 years since the original founding of the Historical Society of New Mexico. See www.hsnm.org for more information as it becomes available.
